Insomnia

We all have trouble failing asleep occasionally, but for many people sleep has become a goal, not a reality, with insomnia becoming one of the most pervasive health problems in America today. The American Sleep Disorders Association reports that nearly 30 million Americans suffer from insomnia at some point in their lives.

Hypnotherapy provides a safe, natural and effective means of addressing insomnia without drugs or gimmicks and is highly effective with noticeable results often seen after only 1 session. The treatment program offered at Medical Hypnotherapy Associates includes a personalized treatment plan and instruction in auto-hypnosis for self reinforcement.

Insomnia is a frustrating and debilitating condition that affects not only sleep, but also daily functioning and physical, psychological and emotional well-being.

While sleeping pills may provide occasional relief, they are not a permanent or long-term solution because they provide only a light depth of sleep. Failure to achieve deep sleep hampers the full relaxation of natural sleep, so necessary for physical well-being, and also prevents REM sleep, necessary for psychological and emotional well-being. They are also habit forming and should never be taken long-term.

Treating Insomnia with Hypnotherapy

There are two types of insomnia: Primary Insomnia where you can't fall asleep and Secondary Insomnia where you keep waking during the night. Many people have both.

Primary Insomnia is often associated with depression (even mild depression). Symptoms include awakening early in the morning, usually around 5 or 6am; an inability to return to sleep; decreased energy early in the day with improvement later on; and may also include loss of appetite and feelings of depression or feeling "blue. Hypnoanalysis and Hypnotherapy are used to identify and correct the underlying cause of the insomnia.

Secondary Insomnia is much more common and is usually associated with situational anxiety and menopause. Symptoms include difficulty falling asleep, a feeling of one's mind "racing" prior to sleep, fitful sleep, and awakening during the night. This type of insomnia is usually periodic, in response to life situations, and is seldom chronic.

Hypnotherapy techniques including process imagery, result imagery , reframing, direct and indirect suggestion, metaphor and relaxation are used to help the patient "disassociate" the day's activities and then teach him to new ways to prepare for and enjoy a restful nights sleep.

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are very effective in treating insomnia with dramatic results often seen after only 1 session. The treatment offered at Medical Hypnotherapy Associates includes a personalized treatment plan, instruction in auto-hypnosis for self reinforcement, and usually requires only 1-3 sessions.

So, stop suffering needlessly. Insomnia is easily treated. The sooner you begin treatment, the sooner you'll be enjoying a restful night's sleep every night!
