Smoking Cessation with Hypnosis

Smoking Cessation is one of the most common applications of Medical Hypnosis. The success rate of smoking cessation with hypnosis is higher than with any other method (62% success with hypnosis vs. 60% success rate with the patch), but unlike some other methods, in hypnosis the patient's desire to quit is the prime factor in success.

The unique treatment program offered at Medical Hypnotherapy Associates has a 94% success rate. We attribute this do a mutli-disciplined approach that identifies and addresses the underlying cause and is personalized for each patient. By changing the unconscious source dynamic, the program is more permanent. You won't return to smoking in the future if your unconscious motivation to smoke is no longer operational.

"I smoked 3 packs a day for over 40 years and stopped in 1 day." J.T.

"I can't believe how easy this was. No side effects, no struggle." P.M.

"I've been smoke-free for 4 years, with no urges at all." C.W.

Many people entering hypnotherapy for smoking cessation expect the therapist to "make them stop smoking". Hypnosis, like any other Behavior Modification approach, cannot make a person do anything they do not want to do. If a patient is ambivalent or confused about his desire to quit or is doing so to please another person, he will not be successful. The attitude: "I don't really want to quit but I have to" is common, but insufficient for success.

Hypnosis is a highly concentrated and focused attention which engages the unconscious mind (providing 9 times more strength to the effort) and totally bypasses willpower, a conscious function. The trance state of hypnosis creates direct access to the unconscious mind, which controls your smoking behavior. In this way, the desire to smoke is addressed at the source, eliminating the need for willpower. You no longer have to fight the urge to smoke ... you simply lose the desire!

Approaches Used

There are two approaches used at Medical Hypnotherapy Associates: the "Cold Turkey" Approach and the Interval Approach, each supported by our unique multi-disciplinary approach.

"Cold Turkey"

Smokers who smoke less than 1 pack/day may elect the Cold Turkey Approach, in which one stops smoking immediately and the focus of the program centers on making it easier each day to remain the new "smoke-free" you.

Interval Approach

For those who smoke more than 1 pack/day, the Interval Approach is recommended to allow the body to gradually wean itself from nicotine. Specific interval reductions are set up, tailored to each patent, and the focus begins with an emphasis on becoming smoke-free and then switches to maintaining the "smoke-free" you. Depending on the amount smoked daily, the intervals may span from one to three weeks.

Smoking Cessation at Medical Hypnotherapy Associates

FEE: $280 for complete program

All Smoking Cessation programs are private and tailored to the needs of the individual patient. Each program includes:

  • 3 private and personalized sessions
  • Insight Analysis to identify the unconscious cause of the smoking behavior
  • Cognitive Restructuring under hypnosis
  • Hypnotherapy and Hypnoanalysis to change the motivating dynamic.

Note: The programs at Medical Hypnotherapy Associates are positively oriented and Aversion Therapy is not employed unless the patient requests it, or the treating therapist feels it is indicated and the patient agrees.

It is the belief of Medical Hypnotherapy Associates that a positive approach is more readily accepted by the unconscious mind, meets with less resistance (conscious and unconscious), and is ultimately more effective.

For patients who can attain deeper levels of hypnotic trance, depth hypnosis techniques may be used. Depth techniques are highly potent and greatly enhance the effort. However, depth hypnosis is not required for smoking cessation and depth is NOT related to success; it only allows for greater variety and more powerful techniques.

If you are sincere about wanting to stop smoking, this unique program can be the answer. All it takes is a sincere desire to quit; the rest is easy with hypnosis!
